Church of the Immaculate Conception, Drung, Co. Cavan, Ireland

September 10, 2020 By Alanna McCarey

The Church of the Immaculate Conception in the parish of Kilsherdany and Drung, Co. Cavan is a well-composed work of classical architecture.

Prior to its current state, originally the church was erected in 1769 and could hold 600 people. Since then, the building has been remodelled, most notably between 1947-1951.

Designed by Dublin-based architect Simon Aloysius Leonard, the church was a notable project of its time, given its post war build status.

The traditional design of this church was one of the last of its kind built in Ireland before the Catholic Church opted to move with the times and develop more modernist and efficient chapels.

Following its golden jubilee celebrations in 2001, the church refreshed the interior of the chapel. This work has continued in recent years, including the introduction of our tailor-made light fittings.

The church features four of our Clones three-arm church chandeliers suspended lowly from the ceiling above.

Each chandelier has three traditional “Schoolhouse” glass shades that complement the traditional aesthetic of this Irish church.

The lighting design captures the character and heritage of the chapel and offers a warm atmosphere for parishioners to relax in prayer.
